the weather
was wild and crazy
this camping trip
and the worst of it
wasn't even
the lightning
or thunder
or the rain
but it was
the wind!
whipping the tent flaps
blowing the tents
almost over
bending the tent poles
lifting the empty ones
right off of the ground
flipping our shelter
off of the ground and over
blowing so hard
it flipped chairs over
again and again
I'm not afraid of
thunder or lightning
in fact
I LOVE it!
it is a wild
untamed
force of nature
that demands to be
respected
but the wind
made me nervous
what if it breaks the tent?
we will be exposed
in the open
vulnerable
cold
in the dark
then the whole business
is something to FEAR
but the thunderstorm
moved on and the sky cleared up
leaving only the wind
to contend with
and it brought the chill air
but sometime through the night
it settled down to a dull roar
and we slept
and we had a beautiful day
for packing up to
return home again
