Halloween Party

{Post: 297/365}
it's almost time
to dress up
in costume
whether goofy,
frightening and creepy
or just plain cute
and have the
best costume contest
at our annual party
and guess the number
of Halloween candies
gift pail
time to drink
listen to "Halloween" music
my fave always:
The Hall of the Mountain King
and eat disgustingly
creepy treats
like:
Bloody Bug Juice
Creepy Mummy Dogs
Roasted Alien Fingers
Caterpillar Kebobs
Puking Pumpkin Dip
Rat Cheese Spread
and
enjoying
laughter, food and fun
with our friends
I can't wait!

Hangover Breakfast

{Post: 16/365}
it has been
a long long time
since I needed
a hangover breakfast

some mornings
were
too far past
the hangover breakfast

but usually
it was the only
hangover cure
a greasy hangover breakfast

hubby and I
would drag ourselves out of bed
early enough
to make McDonald's breakfast

and it was
the one bright spot
after a drunken revelry
to enjoy our hangover breakfast together

Christmas Dinner Party

{Post: 350/365}
Every year I have a part for family and friends and make some food, listen to music, exchange gifts and have a great time. This year I made meatballs, sausage/cheese balls, meat and cheese trays, pickles too and mushroom caps (a different recipe that didn't really work as well as previous ones). Everyone seemed to have a good time and so the party was a success! :) Yay!

Am I Ready?

{Post: 346/365}
I am NOT.
I have a party to get food ready for on Saturday.
I have a few gifts left to organize and wrap.
I still need to go shopping!
I cannot do anything right now because it is excrutiating torture just to get from the couch to the bathroom!
I am suffering yet another gout attack at CHRISTMAS time! Is this some kind of punishment? I really begin to wonder you know cause it not only annoys my husband but also MYSELF that he has to do everything for me right now. I mean it is really lovely to be cooked for and taken care of but I hate annoying him and I HATE trying to explain to him how I want things done when it would be easier to do it myself if it wasn't so painful! :(
I guess that I will just have to roll with it as usual. It's not that he can't do things perfectly well it's just that I actually WANT to do these things as my gift of love to family and friends. It's all part of it for me. Passing the jobs onto him means I haven't done ANYTHING and makes me feel bad. :(
However, I am doing the best that I CAN do and I just hope everyone will understand yet again that I am not working at 100% at the moment and appreciate my effort. ;)

Halloween 2011

{Post: 319/365 Original Post: Burgers, Boys & BEER}
On Oct. 29th this year we had a Halloween party and it was a good time!
I tried a few new recipes and they seemed to be a hit!

Deviled Green Goblin Eggs

SIMPLE PIMPLES

1-2 dozen cherry tomatoes

flavored soft cream cheese spread

Core tomatoes with a carrot peeler or knife. Drain excess tomato juice. Using a butter knife, fill holes in tomatoes with cream cheese. Give each "pimple" a gentle squeeze and arrange on a platter.

BLOODY BUG JUICE
24 oz frozen strawberries, thawed
6 oz lemonade, frozen concentrate
1 quart ginger ale
1 cup raisins
1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
Place the strawberries in a bowl and mash with a fork. In a large pitcher, mix the strawberry mash, lemonade and ginger ale. Place handfuls of raisins and blueberries (bugs) into tall glasses. Pour the liquid over the bugs, then sit back and watch the bugs and scum rise to the top of each glass.
To quench a creepy crowd's thirst, double or triple this recipe and serve in a punch bowl. Drape some gummy worms over the rim of your bowl for a particularly swampy-looking effect!

Of course we had chips & dip and some of the other usual party snacks but we had a great time too! :)

Labour Day Weekend Party

{Post: 246/365}
We had our annual party because hubby said we couldn't NOT do it since we've been doing it every year for how long? Probably almost as long as we've been together! So we had a fun evening with our friends and it was good. :)
I'm almost tired of parties except tht I do NEED and LOVE to spend the time with my friends. I just get so tired and worn out from all the work to get ready and all the energy it takes to visit with everyone. I don't want to give it up really but, I HATE feeling so tired afterwards!

Girls Just Wanna Have FUN!

{Post 76/365: Original Post: Girls SHOULD}
Once upon a time on a warm evening quite awhile ago now actually the girls and I had a night out. It was a fun night full of drinks, laughs and good girl time.
However, when we walked home we did happen to make a lot of noise.  Giggles and laughter seem to get even louder when you have added a bit of alcohol to the mix.
Our noise apparently upset my bestie's neighbour and he had a conversation about that evening a little bit later with her husband where he proceeded to say, "Girl's shouldn't have nights out!"
Well, OMG! I always have to argue that point because it is JUST as imperative that we as girls have our fun times together as it is for the boys! Girls just want to have fun!
So we can giggle a little bit more than makes sense.  So we can laugh as loud and long as we like. So we might make a little bit too much noise and bother the neighbours. As long as we are hurting no-one and having a bit of harmless fun it is worth every moment!
Girls ABSOLUTELY should have nights out. For the same reason the boys do.
To share, to bond, to grow, to laugh, to live a deeper, better, richer life than we ever could ALONE.
You go girls! ;)

Triple Birthday Bash

Post 22/365: Original Post: Burgers, Boys & BEER}
Last night we had a triple birthday bash for three of our friends!
It was a great time, lots of fun had, a birthday cake for three and good food.

Along with the usual snacks like popcorn, corn chips, pretzels and chips we also had everyone's favourite taco dip with tostitos. (RECIPE to follow).  The drinkers were drinking whatever their fave drinks were and we all got to share some of our fave party "drinks"...the infamous JELLO SHOOTERS!! Woohoo!!

It's always fun to have our friends come over for a good evening.
Good friends, good food, good music, good times!
Happy Birthday!
Shawn
Mary
&
Nicky
We hope you had a great time too!!

TACO DIP
1 500ml container of sour cream
1 taco seasoning mix
1 medium tomato
3 green onions
1 cup of grated cheddar cheese

  • Mix sour cream and taco seasoning mix together.
  • Spoon into a flat dish like a pie pan.
  • Grate cheese and sprinkle over sour cream mix.
  • Chop tomato into cubes and sprinkle on top of dip.
  • Chop green onions and sprinkle on dip.
  • Eat with nacho chips. ;)
  • ENJOY!

Write what ya KNOW...

{Post 18/365: Original Post: Burgers, Boys & BEER}
Write what you know they say....hmmmmm....well alright...
Boys, burgers and BEER...in no particular order...lol
I can't say I know ALL the boys...there are just too many!! So MANY boys so little time!! hehehe
But, I know MY boys and I know what they like to eat because I've spent a lot of years FEEDING them...all the bad, fattening, awful-for-you party foods that we ALL enjoy eating! ;)...AND, yes I also have fed them good things as well!
I'm writing about menus and meals and restricted diet plans in a separate blog because I can't eat or drink too much of the fun stuff anymore but, there is no reason why I can't share all the yummies that we have all enjoyed over the years here for everyone else to try!!
So this is the party blog!!! WELCOME! ;)

I have always loved food.
I have at times used food to comfort myself.
I have been cooking food for others since I was 12 or 13 because my father was sick, my mother had to work and I had to help out! So I have always known how to cook for a family of four or more.
I get BORED! I grew up in a meat and potato meal home...you know...pork chops, a roast, steak, ham, whatever...WITH potatoes and some kind of veggie.  Also, usually with gravy too...and don't get me wrong...these are wonderful meals sometimes but I get BORED...I need variety in my food...it's the spice of life you know! lol
So I have learned to try a recipe and tweak it here and there sometimes to fit my own tastes or that of my hubby and we've tried MANY.  I LOVE this man for being the adventurous sort and being willing to eat all the many new recipes I have found and tried and also kind of invented over the years! Kudos to you honey...you've got an adventurous spirit! (Especially living through all the less than wonderful experiments too!)
Hubby is often the guinea pig that has to test some of the things the other boys just get to enjoy after they've already become something GOOD! lol
Tho my oldest son always says his fave things I make are the things I just kind of throw into a pot together! The standing joke around here is that we're having "pig puke" for supper (sorry!).
I have always been a nurturer and since I was eighteen and out on my own enjoyed cooking good meals for my friends.  Usually this happens at an annual Christmas Dinner but, also can be because we've decided to have friends over for a meal or we've planned a birthday potluck to celebrate our friend's birthdays as well as those of our family.
So, I may have many recipes, ideas and foods to share.
I might also have some funny friend stories.
I hope that I will express properly the love and joy I share with my friends and family at our parties and in our home and that you will feel you would be welcome at our table. ;)
